Activities in Fionnphort and the Isle of
Mull
There are plenty of activities near Fionnphort and across the Isle of Mull to suit every taste and type of holiday.
Discover Iona using the frequent ferry service from Fionnphort. Iona has a rich history,
including St Columba and the Abbey, and provides excellent wildlife walks with spectacular views of
the Inner Hebrides.
Boat Trips
During the high season there are frequent trips from Fionnphort, to Staffa with its unique volcanic rock formation and Fingal's Cave. There are also whale-watching trips. Services from Fionnphort are below:

Castles
Open from Easter to September, Torosay Castle and Duart Castle are great days out for all the family. Torosay
is Victorian, having been completed in 1858, whilst Duart has been a proper, functioning castle since
at least 1350. Duart Castle has featured in movies such as When Eight Bells Toll (1971) and
Entrapment (1999), as well as cult TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Both castles are on the
east side of Mull, just south of Craignure - you will pass them both after coming off the ferry.
Isle of Mull Railway
The Isle of Mull Railway is a small-gauge railway from Craignure to Torosay Castle (and back!). More

Beaches
Apart from the beach at Fionnphort itself, there are the famous white beaches stretching to the south of
Fionnphort past Fidden (pronounced 'Fidgen') and Erraid.
Golf
There is a small golf course on Iona, another at Craignure and one above Tobermory.
Pony-Trekking
There is pony-trekking at the Killiechronan Estate, including a Saturday kids' club www.mullponytrekking.co.uk
Other Outdoor Activities
In addition to the above, there is excellent hiking, hill-walking, rock-climbing, bird-watching, wind-surfing,
scuba-diving canoe-ing, bird-watching and wildlife observation. Ben More ('Great Mountain' in
Gaelic) is a proper Munro. At 966m (3,169ft) it is ranked 7th highest in the British Isles in terms of
relative height.
